FAQs
WHY ARE WE DIFFERENT?
We are a physician group specialized in rural hospitals. We work with hospitals in order to help them with coverage by working directly with our medical directors. This way we learn what its needed to take up the reins of the job and facilitate the start of a new permanent physician, with actual hands on experience.
WHAT IS A LOCUM TENENS PHYSICIAN?
Locum tenens means “to hold the place of, to substitute for” in Latin. This term has been used since the early 1970s, for the purpose of providing physician staffing services to healthcare facilities on a temporary basis. Today thousands of physicians join efforts to provide coverage all over the United States and abroad.
HOW LONG IS THE TYPICAL LOCUM TENENS JOB?
Up to you! Jobs can range from just a few shifts to up to a year or more, depending on the needs of the locum provider and the hiring hospital.
CAN I WORK AS A LOCUM PHYSICIAN IF I’M A RESIDENT OR FELLOW?
Yes! Working as a locum physician lets you earn compensation, gain valuable experience, and enhance your CV.
HOW ARE LOCUM TENENS PROVIDERS COMPENSATED?
We offer highly competitive pay (often more than a typical permanent job) based on location and medical specialty. Locum physicians are paid as independent contractors at an agreed-upon rate.
Because of this, taxes are not withheld from your paychecks. Working as an independent contractor may offer tax advantages, such as the ability to deduct certain expenses and healthcare insurance premiums.
HOW DO LICENSING AND CREDENTIALING WORK?
We have a credentialing team responsible for coordinating everything needed to set up and complete your assignment, making the onboarding process simple for both the locum provider and the hospital.
WILL I RECEIVE HEALTH BENEFITS WHILE ON ASSIGNMENT?
As independent contractors, locum physicians are typically not eligible for medical benefits. However, your health insurance premiums, along with other expenses, may be deductible.
